How to set up Slack and Google Sheets

  1. Choose Slack and Google Sheets

  3. Paste the Slack bot token and the Google Sheets link

  4. We check both keys
    Each key is checked against Slack's and Google Sheets's own API the moment you paste it. If one doesn't pass, the screen says what to fix, and a person joins the chat if that isn't enough.
  5. Add one test row, then it's Running
    A minute or two. Add a row in Google Sheets and wait for the post in the channel. It runs on a short schedule, so give it a minute.

Why within a minute rather than instantly?

Google Sheets does not tell anyone when a cell changes, so we check on a short schedule. For a sheet that fills from a form, that is plenty.

Will it fill the channel?

Only the columns you watch post, and each row keeps one thread. A sheet that changes all day usually goes to a channel of its own.

Does Slack integrate with Google?

With Google Sheets, yes. How do I link my Google account to Slack?

For this pair you don't link accounts. You share the spreadsheet, either with anyone who has the link or only with the address our engineer sends you, paste the sheet link and a Slack bot token in your Dovetly account, and invite the bot to the channel. Nobody signs in to Google from Slack.

Can I integrate Gmail with Slack?

Not ready-made: Gmail isn't in our catalog yet. If you need mail in Slack, describe it and a person replies within a working hour with whether we can build it and at what price.

Anything to know about Slack?

The bot has to be invited to a channel before it can post there; that's one command in Slack.

Anything to know about Google Sheets?

Google Sheets doesn't tell anyone when a cell changes, so anything we read back out of a sheet is picked up on a short schedule rather than the moment you type it.
