Stripe and Shopify, ready to switch on

A payment, subscription charge or paid invoice in Stripe becomes an order in Shopify with the customer and the line items, so anything you sell outside the storefront still gets picked, packed and counted. You paste two keys in your account and it runs, in about ten minutes.

No setup fee, cancel any month, and a person on live chat if a key doesn't work.

Isn't Stripe already built into Shopify?

In a sense, yes. Shopify Payments runs on Stripe, and in some countries Stripe can be added as a third-party gateway with Shopify's extra fee on top. Both take money inside the storefront. This pair is for money taken outside it: Stripe payment links, invoices and subscriptions that should still become Shopify orders. If everything you sell goes through checkout, you don't need it, and we'll say so.

How to set up Stripe and Shopify

Ten minutes of your time, then it's ours.

  1. Choose Stripe and Shopify
Press Connect. This pair is already selected on the checkout page at $39 a month, and there's nothing else to pick.
  2. Pay and open your account
Card or invoice, about two minutes. The account opens with this integration waiting for its two keys.
  3. Paste the Stripe restricted key and the Shopify Admin API access
    • Stripe restricted key: in Stripe open Developers, then API keys, and press Create restricted key. Full Stripe guide
    • Shopify Admin API access: in your Shopify admin open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, then Develop apps, and create an app. Full Shopify guide
Each screen carries the full guide with the exact menu names, about eight minutes for both.
  4. We check both keys
Each key is checked against Stripe's and Shopify's own API the moment you paste it. If one doesn't pass, the screen says what to fix, and a person joins the chat if that isn't enough.
  5. Make one test payment, then it's Running
A minute or two. Create a test payment in Stripe and watch the order appear in Shopify. From then on we watch it for you.

When Stripe or Shopify changes its API, we fix it within a working day. You don't get a ticket to solve.

Before you decide

Are test payments skipped?

Yes. Payments made with a Stripe test key never become orders, so you can watch it work before the live key goes in.

Does anything go back into Stripe?

No. Money is read, never written. Nothing you do to an order can create a charge or a refund.

Which Shopify product does an order use?

The one whose SKU matches the SKU on the Stripe price. Put the same SKU on both sides once and every order lands with the right line item. Anything unmatched goes to a placeholder product you name, never dropped quietly.

Do I need Stripe if I have Shopify?

If everything you sell goes through the Shopify checkout, no, and you don't need this pair either. It's for money taken outside the storefront: Stripe payment links, invoices and subscription charges that should still become Shopify orders with the customer and the line items, so the warehouse packs them like any other order.

How much does a Stripe Shopify integration cost?

$39 a month, flat, whatever the number of payments. That covers the orders, the refunds, the customer details, monitoring, and fixes when Stripe or Shopify changes its API. Stripe's per-payment pricing and your Shopify plan are paid to them as before.

Anything to know about Stripe?

A restricted key with read access can only read. It can't move money, and we never ask for your secret key.

Anything to know about Shopify?

A custom app's Admin API token is shown once; if you lose it you create a new one from the same screen.

What if mine is a bit different?
