Airtable and Slack, ready to switch on

A record entering the view you name is posted to the Slack channel mapped to that view, changes to the fields you care about land in the record's thread, and the person in a collaborator field gets a direct message. You paste two keys in your account and it runs, in about ten minutes.

No setup fee, cancel any month, and a person on live chat if a key doesn't work.

How to set up Airtable and Slack

Ten minutes of your time, then it's ours.

  1. Choose Airtable and Slack
Press Connect. This pair is already selected on the checkout page at $39 a month, and there's nothing else to pick.
  2. Pay and open your account
Card or invoice, about two minutes. The account opens with this integration waiting for its two keys.
  3. Paste the Airtable personal access token and the Slack bot token
    • Airtable personal access token: open airtable.com/create/tokens and press Create new token. Full Airtable guide
    • Slack bot token: open api.slack.com/apps and create an app from scratch in your workspace. Full Slack guide
Each screen carries the full guide with the exact menu names, about nine minutes for both.
  4. We check both keys
Each key is checked against Airtable's and Slack's own API the moment you paste it. If one doesn't pass, the screen says what to fix, and a person joins the chat if that isn't enough.
  5. Add one test row, then it's Running
A minute or two. Add a record in Airtable and wait for the post in the channel. It runs on a short schedule, so give it a minute.

When Airtable or Slack changes its API, we fix it within a working day. You don't get a ticket to solve.

$39a month
  • Everything in the table above, with monitoring on.
  • Fixes when either app changes its API.
  • A person on live chat, replies within a working hour.
  • Custom logic beyond the table is priced separately.

Before you decide

Why within a minute rather than instantly?

Airtable does not tell anyone when a cell changes, so we check on a short schedule. For a sheet that fills from a form, that is plenty.

Will it fill the channel?

Only the columns you watch post, and each record keeps one thread. A sheet that changes all day usually goes to a channel of its own.

Airtable automations can already post to Slack.

They can, and Airtable's help walks through the Slack action in an automation. If one message per trigger is what you need, build it there. This pair adds what an automation does not give you for free: one thread per record, digests, direct messages to a collaborator, and it doesn't count against the automation runs your Airtable plan includes. Nothing to build in the base.

Which views should we post?

Start with one: the view that means something changed hands. A base can have many views and each can go to its own channel, but a channel that hears about every record gets muted by Thursday.

Can Airtable integrate with Slack?

Yes. A record entering the view you name is posted to the Slack channel mapped to that view, changes to the fields you care about land in the record's thread, the person in a collaborator field gets a direct message, and a morning digest lists what's due today. You paste an Airtable personal access token scoped to the base and a Slack bot token; $39 a month.

What apps integrate with Airtable?

Ready-made on Dovetly, Airtable pairs with HubSpot, Slack and Jira. All of them use one personal access token that reaches only the bases you tick while creating it. Anything else, describe it and a person replies with a price within a working hour.

Anything to know about Airtable?

A personal access token reaches only the bases you tick while creating it, so pick the base first and the token stays narrow.

Anything to know about Slack?

The bot has to be invited to a channel before it can post there; that's one command in Slack.

What if mine is a bit different?

Tell us what should go where in plain words. Small changes to the rules above are usually free; bigger ones we price the same day and build into the same account.
