Intercom and Stripe, ready to switch on
The plan, the amount and the date of the last payment are written on the Intercom contact, and a cancellation or a failed card tags them, so an agent knows who they are talking to. You paste two keys in your account and we switch it on for you.
No setup fee, cancel any month, and a person on live chat if a key doesn't work.
More with these apps: all Intercom integrations · all Stripe integrations
What moves, and when
The details you would normally get after a sales call. Here they are up front.
| What | Direction | When | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| What they pay you, on the contact | Stripe to Intercom | Within seconds | Plan, amount and the date of the last payment, so an agent sees who they are talking to before they answer |
| Subscription started or changed | Stripe to Intercom | Within seconds | Plan and status rewritten in place on the contact |
| Cancelled | Stripe to Intercom | Within seconds | The contact is tagged, so support knows before the customer has to explain it |
| Failed charge | Stripe to Intercom | Within seconds | Tagged with the reason Stripe gives, and a conversation opens with your wording if you want one |
| Duplicate check | Stripe to Intercom | Every payment | Matched by email and the Stripe customer id, never a second contact |
How to set up Intercom and Stripe
A few minutes of your time, then it's ours.
- Choose Intercom and StripePress Connect. This pair is already selected on the checkout page at $39 a month, and there's nothing else to pick.
- Pay and open your accountCard or invoice, about two minutes. The account opens with this integration waiting for its two keys.
- Paste the Intercom access token and the Stripe restricted key
- Intercom access token: open the Intercom Developer Hub at app.intercom.com/a/apps/_/developer-hub and press New app under Your Apps. Full Intercom guide
- Stripe restricted key: in Stripe open Developers, then API keys, and press Create restricted key. Full Stripe guide
Each screen carries the full guide with the exact menu names, about six minutes for both. - We check both keysEach key is checked against Intercom's and Stripe's own API the moment you paste it. If one doesn't pass, the screen says what to fix, and a person joins the chat if that isn't enough.
- Make one test payment, then we switch it onA minute or two. Run a test payment in Stripe for a customer you can find in Intercom, then open that contact and see the plan on it. A person checks the setup and switches it on, within a working day.
When Intercom or Stripe changes its API, we fix it within a working day. You don't get a ticket to solve.
- Everything in the table above, with monitoring on.
- Fixes when either app changes its API.
- A person on live chat, weekdays 10:00 to 19:00 EET.
- Custom logic beyond the table is priced separately.
What it will cost once you can switch it on yourself. While we're in beta we connect it by hand and don't charge for it.
Ways to connect Intercom and Stripe
Two ways people connect these two, and what each one asks of you.
Before you decide
Do agents see card details?
No. Plan, amount, currency, status and dates travel. Card numbers stay in Stripe and never reach the help desk.
What if the payment email differs from the support email?
Then we match on the Stripe customer id once you link the two, or on the address you nominate. Tell us which field to trust and we set it while connecting.
Anything to know about Intercom?
An access token belongs to one workspace, so a second workspace needs its own token.
Anything to know about Stripe?
A restricted key with read access can only read. It can't move money, and we never ask for your secret key.
What if mine is a bit different?
Tell us what should go where in plain words. Small changes to the rules above are usually free; bigger ones we price within a working day and build into the same account.
